The base view is often the best view to illustrate a sideways deflection of the nose.  If you were to put your finger on his nose where it starts between his eyes and run your finger down the length of his nose, your finger would be quite far off to his left by the time you got to the tip.

The broken cartilages that are dragging his dorsum off to the left also drag the base of his nose and his nostrils off to the left in the before picture.
