This wasn't planned, and I don't know if she was thinking about it, but wearing your hair down on your face is a way of disguising a facial feature.  Pulling the hair back off of the face means there is nothing you are trying to hide.

She had nothing to hide from a personality standpoint, but some people can blossom when the surgeon removes what the patient perceives to be an impediment.
