In the image above left, you see two implants.  The jowl implant is light blue.  The dark blue implant is a standard chin augmentation implant, which is used to make a weak chin appear stronger.  Below, you see the chin implant in position against a skull.  When we are using a chin implant, we want the chin to come forward away from the face (blue arrow below right) to make the chin appear stronger.

The pre-jowl implant, however, is designed to augment only the triangular dent in the skin off to the side of the chin.  Above right, we see that the pre-jowl implant is much thinner in the center (distance between the red lines) than the chin implant (distance between the vertical blue lines).  So the pre-jowl implant will not make the chin look stronger from the profile view.  The green arrow above right points out how the pre-jowl implant is built up in the region of that triangular dent.

Above we see the pre-jowl implant and chin implant from on top.  Again, the pre-jowl implant (at left) is narrower in the middle than the chin implant (position of the black arrows), and the pre-jowl implant has extra thickness off to the side (red arrow), where it will fill out the dent in front of the jowl and help maintain a straighter appearance to the jaw line.

You might ask, if we only expect the pre-jowl implant to augment the triangular dent, why not have two small triangular pieces instead of the one large piece as pictured above?  Answer: with one piece, it's much easier to place the implant in its proper position and have it stay there after surgery.
