The metal splint is
covered with more paper tape to hold it in position, and the operation is complete. You
can't see the metal splint in the photo above because of the tape covering
it. The dorsum of the nose appears to have a hump now because the metal of
the splint and the layers of tape bulk up that part of the nose.
The patient wears the dressing for one week, at which time it is loosened with
tape remover and lifted off. The nasal bones heal very quickly, so you
don't need to wear the splint for six weeks, as you might a cast on a broken
arm.
