The risks of surgery

The improvement in appearance which we strive to achieve does not come without risk. Our techniques have been developed to be as effective and as safe as possible, but surgery is not as predictable as going to a beauty shop for a facial. Despite careful pre-operative evaluation and close attention to operative detail and postoperative care, complications may arise. These may range from the small bother of prolonged swelling or a minor wound infection to a serious tragedy such as a stroke or even death.

No operation is entirely predictable. Some people, because of their anatomy, can get more improvement than others. Sometimes we can't make all the changes that we desire, and rarely the patient may be left with a problem that wasn't anticipated at all. If a complication in the results or healing of your operation does occur, touch up surgery can often improve the problem.

This discussion is not meant to scare you away from surgery. Every year thousands of facial plastic operations are performed with great safety on persons of all ages. Compare the procedure to a car trip across the country. You expect things to go well. There would only be a minuscule chance of having a bad accident.

There is also the risk that you will not be satisfied with the cosmetic improvement obtained.  Although we strive for perfection, we never achieve it.  Moreover, facial plastic surgery will not solve your business or social difficulties. You must clearly understand what can and cannot be accomplished with facial plastic surgery, and your expectations must be realistic.

Do you guarantee your results?

No surgeon in any field can ethically guarantee the results of an operation, no matter how major or how simple.

Then what do you guarantee?

Dr. Denenberg guarantees to perform all surgery carefully and meticulously, utilizing all of his training and skills, striving for the best possible results in each case.

This concludes the essay entitled "Facial Rejuvenation Surgery, Part I."  In Part II, we delve more deeply into your experience after surgery: what it's like, and how to take care of yourself.
