Skin Peeling

When a patient complains of wrinkles and lines, rather than drooping excess skin, we use a skin peel instead of a face lift. Peeling is a technique for improving the appearance when fine wrinkles of the skin are present. Surgery can correct sagging skin, but a peel is required to treat wrinkles.

The improvement that she achieved around her mouth cannot be achieved with a face lift.  A skin peel is used to smooth wrinkles.

The peel is accomplished by applying a chemical solution to the skin. The upper layers of the skin shed, and when the skin heals, the new skin is much smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

The peel is also the longest-lasting facial rejuvenation operation that we have. The improvement achieved from a peel can last for decades.

Small vertical lines that radiate from the upper and lower lips can be improved with a peel. The "laugh lines" which go from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth can be peeled at the same time.  Many patients have the peel around the mouth at the same time as their face lift.

Note the improvement in the vertical lines of the upper and lower lips.

Some people also have very fine wrinkles of the skin over the entire face and cheeks, giving them a "weathered" appearance. These fine spider-web wrinkles, which may be hereditary or the result of excessive sun exposure, are only slightly improved by a face lift, and a full-face skin peel can greatly benefit such individuals.
