The neck

When excess fat is present under the skin of the turkey wattle, we use a liposuction to remove the fat before the face lift slides the excess skin up and out from under the chin.  The liposuction is performed during the same operation as the face lift.

Just pulling the skin up, without the liposuction, wouldn't be adequate in this woman.

Someone with a thin, slender neck and thin, drapey skin, such as the patient pictured above, can obtain a dramatic improvement...

...whereas a patient with a shorter, thicker neck and thicker skin will have a less dramatic improvement from her face lift.

However, the operation still works to decrease the jowling and the skin excess, giving a cleaner look to the jaw line.

The face lift works on the lower part of the face, from about the level of the upper lips down to the mid portion of the neck. If you are looking in the mirror, trying to simulate what a face lift would do for you, don't put your fingertips on your cheekbones and pull up. Rather, put your fingers on the edge of your jaw bone, half way between your chin and your ear, and slide the skin up and back, along the edge of the jaw.
