Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty
The difference between an open rhinoplasty and a closed rhinoplasty
is that in an open rhinoplasty, an incision is placed across the bottom
of the nose.
The red line on the image below right shows the location of the
incision. Below left, we see the nose after healing is complete;
it's difficult to see the scar after it has had time to heal.
Dr. Denenberg performs most of his rhinoplasties using the open
technique. He feels that the open approach allows a better view of
the nasal structure, which allows him to use more techniques, and to
judge better what to do.
Some surgeons prefer closed rhinoplasty. What's important is
not whether the doctor uses open or closed, but rather the quality of
results that he is able to achieve.
