The irregularity in her nose makes it look too short in the before picture.  By building up the nose, it appears to have a more substantial length, even though I didn't change the position of the tip.  This is an interesting illusion relating the apparent length of the nose to the height of the dorsum: the higher the dorsum sits, the longer the nose appears to be.

Similarly, if a patient has a long nose that I can't get quite as short as I would like, carving down the dorsum a teeny bit more can make the nose look a teeny bit shorter.

Questioner: What procedures will feminize my face?
Just from looking at my pictures, which procedures do you think will help improve and feminise my face? If you want to know more about my stature, I'm 19 years old, 5'9 and 140lbs.

Dr. Denenberg's answer: Feminize my Face
Hi Louise.  Rhinoplasty may be one option.  A "smaller", "thinner" nose may be considered more feminine.
